Hello world!
Welcome to my very first blog ever!
My name is Joe Cho and I'm a fairly new resident of the Salem area! Prior to this assignment, I have heard of blogs and have friends that contribute to several blogs in their free time, however, I have not explored this area of communication ever until now, so this is very new to me and I'm excited to learn about how to use it effectively.
I am currently a part time student at Willamette University pursuing a Master's in Teaching and initial license with the intent to teach at the middle and high school level in math, science, and/or health. I live a relatively active lifestyle, and enjoy any activity that involves movement and a great work out! My favorite activities include basketball, hiking, frisbee, and cycling. I also enjoy exploring different cultures through the realm of food. In turn, I enjoy meeting new people especially if he/she is from a different culture from my own. Also, when I do get the chance, I take advantage of using more significant free time to travel outside of the U.S. So far, I've only been to three countries outside of the U.S. (Mexico, S. Korea, Canada). I'd like to build upon my travel resume later down the road.
I chose this career path of education after serving 2 years in AmeriCorps in Federal Way, WA. I have spent time with youth of various cultures and backgrounds and received first hand experiences within a public school setting and has been a real eye opening realization to the work that's being done inside the school walls. Nevertheless, I have gained a new perspective on how I view the youth and how I see the course that education is heading. Overall, I can definitely say that I can see great potential with our kids and what unique characteristics and skills they bring to the table.
I'll have to do a little research on AmeriCorps --- not familiar with the program. Sounds like you had some invaluable experiences.
ReplyDeleteHa! I just drove through Federal Way, WA this weekend :) I love what you said about exploring different cultures through food. I have been eating my way around this world almost my entire adult life! --Sar
